Description

This philatelic sheet, published by CEF, features the Wych Elm, an emblematic species of the Ulmus genus. The main part of the sheet presents a detailed illustration by Huguette Sanson, showing close-up elm leaves on the left and, on the right, a landscape with a majestic elm tree in front of a house, against a mountainous backdrop under a blue sky. The dominant colors are green, brown, and some touches of white and pastel blue, giving the whole a didactic yet aesthetic appearance.

On the left side is a printed text describing the botanical characteristics and history of the Wych Elm, with information on its distribution, cold resistance, uses, and the diseases that affect it. It also mentions its traditional use in France, particularly as a shade tree in public places.

In the bottom left, the sheet includes a French postage stamp issued for "Stamp Day," illustrating the elm, accompanied by a commemorative postmark dated September 21, 1985, in Orléans. The cancellation bears the inscription "MILLE ARBRES" (A THOUSAND TREES) and a stylized drawing of trees, attesting to its authenticity and issue date.

The whole is presented on a white cardboard backing, with perforations on the left for insertion into a binder, typical of CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie Française et Étrangère) sheets. In the upper left, the reference "785 from the CEF catalog" is visible, as well as the mention "Modèle Déposé" (Registered Design).

The visual is completed by the title at the bottom right, "ORME DE MONTAGNE" (WYCH ELM), printed in capital letters. The general condition observable in the photo shows a clean surface, without visible stains or creases, and sharp edges.

Used item, sold as is. The sheet shows good visual preservation on the front, with no apparent defects on the image.
