This official CEF philatelic sheet highlights the "Opening of the Estates General - May 5, 1789." It is a commemorative document published by Éditions CEF, in a rectangular format, with a neat presentation on a pale blue background. The sheet features a large central color illustration depicting three emblematic figures of the Estates General, typical of the late 18th century, accompanied by detailed historical text on the convocation of the Estates General under Louis XVI.

On the right side of the sheet, there is a French postage stamp of 0.45 francs, issued by the French Republic and illustrating the delegates of the three orders. Next to the stamp is a Versailles First Day cancellation, with the inscription "Opening of the Estates General 1789 – First Day May 5, 1979 – Versailles" and a stylized representation of the three orders.

The sheet has a wide lateral margin on the left, in blue-green, bearing the inscription "N° 170 du Catalogue CEF," the CEF logo, as well as publication and print run information. The individual copy number, here "6214," is printed at the bottom left. The margin also features perforations for potential filing in a binder.
