Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by CEF, presents an artistic view of the city of Vienne (Isère), located on the banks of the Rhône. The left part of the sheet is adorned with a detailed illustration, in black and red, depicting Vienne's emblematic monuments, including a Gallo-Roman temple and ancient buildings, with the inscription "VIENNE SUR LE RHÔNE" integrated into the design. The scene is reflected in the water, an effect accentuated by the graphic design of the motif.

A French postage stamp with a face value of 1.70€ is affixed to the bottom left, accompanied by a "Premier Jour" (First Day) postmark, dated and bearing the inscription "VIENNE JOUR D'ÉMISSION". The stamp depicts a monument from Vienne, faithfully illustrated in black and white, and harmoniously integrated into the visual composition.

On the right part of the sheet, a textual insert provides a historical and cultural description of the city of Vienne (Isère), with the title in gothic typography. The text details the Gallo-Roman origins of the city, its monuments, and its historical importance on the banks of the Rhône. At the bottom of the column, it is indicated that the original illustration is signed by the artist Marie Noëlle Goffin, professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille.

The sheet is framed by a golden fillet (visible golden appearance), and mounted on a CEF cardboard sheet, with perforations on the left (presence of binder holes for storage). At the top left, the reference "N°754 du catalogue CEF" is indicated, as well as "Modèle déposé CEF" (CEF Registered Design). The item's numbering appears at the bottom left: "1023".

The whole presents a neat appearance, typical of CEF editions, with elegant layout and quality printing. The sheet is intended for thematic philately and for highlighting French history and regional heritage.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side shows very good general preservation: clear colors, legible text, no apparent defects on the illustrated or textual area. The backing sheet shows slight handling marks, without major visible alteration.

Did you know? The acronym CEF stands for "Centrale d’Edition Philatélique" (Philatelic Publishing Centre), a French company specializing since 1946 in the publication of illustrated philatelic sheets, cards, and documents, often in limited and numbered editions. CEF "Premier Jour" sheets are prized for the quality of their illustrations, often created by renowned artists, and for their detailed documentation on the sites and events commemorated.
