Vintage Filtroptic 1A 58mm photo filter for camera lens
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This vintage photographic filter from the Filtroptic brand comes in its original rigid case, with a satin white finish. On the lid, the inscription "FILTROPTIC" appears in black capital letters, indicating the brand. The square-shaped case with rounded corners is open to reveal the optical filter resting on a pale yellow protective foam, typical of mid-20th-century photo accessories.
The filter visible in the photo is circular, with a dark metallic-looking mount. On the exposed side of the case, two small labels are present: one indicates "1A" (probably the filter type reference, often associated with a UV or light skylight filter), the other "58" (corresponding to the 58mm diameter, standard for many vintage camera lenses). Two colored rectangles, blue and red, also adorn the side of the case, suggesting French manufacturing or a reference to the brand's range.
The filter's surface, clearly visible, has a very slightly pinkish tint, characteristic of 1A skylight filters designed to correct the bluish cast in film photography. No chips or deep scratches are visible on the exposed side of the filter, but slight marks or dust may be noted, typical of a used accessory kept in its original case.
The design of the case and the typography evoke production from the 1970s to 1980s, a period when Filtroptic accessories equipped many amateur and professional photographers. No other accessories are visible in the photo.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The case shows some visible signs of wear on the lid. The filter has a clean surface, with no apparent chips on the photographed area. Original interior foam is yellowed but still functional for protection. The overall condition corresponds to a vintage photo accessory that has been used but is well preserved.
Did you know? 1A filters, known as "skylight" filters, were widely used in the era of film photography to soften the blue cast of the sky or shadows, while serving as permanent protection for the front lens element. The mention "58" corresponds to a standard diameter compatible with many lenses from major brands in the 1970s and 1980s.
