Description
This antique epaulet slide, shown in the photo, is intended for the air force uniform. It is made of a dark fabric with a navy blue appearance, enhanced by three parallel gold and silver ribbon stripes on the left side. On the right, a stylized wing motif, finely embroidered with gold thread, is clearly visible and occupies a central place in the composition. The ensemble evokes an aviator officer rank or a pilot's insignia, typical of French aerial military uniforms.

The golden embroidery of the eagle, with outstretched wings, is clear and well-defined, giving the piece an official and traditional appearance. The braid stripes feature an alternation of gold, silver, and black colors, highlighting the distinctive style of air force shoulder insignia. The fabric's texture appears slightly felted and dense, with good drape and a neat finish on the visible side.

The overall condition shows some signs of use, including a small pulled thread under the golden embroidery, without affecting the legibility of the insignia. No other major defects are visible on the photographed side. The fabric surface maintains good homogeneity and the ribbons are securely attached.

This type of slide was used to indicate rank on the sleeve or shoulder of a uniform jacket. Its elongated and rectangular shape, as well as the arrangement of the braids, are characteristic of rank insignia worn by French military aviation aircrew or officers during the 20th century, possibly between the 1950s and 1980s, depending on the observable design and embroidery technique.

The visible side shows no additional inscriptions or marks. The object is presented on a light background that highlights the depth of the blue and the brilliance of the golden finishes.

Condition
Used item, sold as is. Presence of a visible pulled thread under the golden wing embroidery. No other notable defects on the visible side.

Did you know? The gold and silver braids on shoulder slides allow for quick identification of officer ranks in the French Air Force.
