Description
This antique, oval-shaped frame pediment features particularly elaborate ornamentation, typical of the late 19th century. The upper part of the frame is richly decorated with a relief scene depicting a rural team: a man and a woman, accompanied by a horse pulling a cart, are set in a pastoral landscape. The figures are surrounded by foliage and floral details, giving the whole a narrative and lively aesthetic.
The frame's structure, visible in the photo, displays a luminous golden finish, with reflections that accentuate the relief details of the decoration. The sides and base also feature floral motifs in relief, bringing visual coherence to the whole. The large oval central opening suggests an initial use as a clock dial crest or decorative pediment, intended to enhance a piece of furniture or a clock.
The general style evokes a naturalistic and narrative taste, with attention to the clothing details of the figures and the elements of the landscape. The gilding shows a heterogeneous patina, with some areas duller or shinier, testifying to the piece's age and its exposure to light and air over time.
No marks or inscriptions are discernible on the visible side. The deep relief of the motifs, the careful execution of the figures, and the balance of the composition suggest a well-made piece, characteristic of decorative ornaments from the second half of the 19th century.
The base of the pediment, also adorned with stylized floral reliefs, elegantly completes the ensemble. The contours are sharp, although some minor irregularities related to age are observed, without affecting the visual stability of the piece. The object is presented on a stand, but only the pediment (visible front and sides) is included in this description.
Condition

Did you know? Dial pediments were frequently used in the 19th century to adorn the tops of clocks or furniture. They were often made of gilded metal or bronze, and their narrative decoration reflected the artistic tastes of the era, favoring rural or mythological scenes.
