Description

An old character-shaped eraser, featuring the famous Hello Kitty motif. The eraser has a die-cut silhouette following the contours of Hello Kitty's head and an open book, on which the inscription "PRINCE" appears in black capital letters. Two stylized yellow flowers and two yellow tulips on a red background decorate the lower part of the book. Hello Kitty, recognizable by her red bow on her head, displays a white face with black outlines, a yellow muzzle, and no mouth, according to the character's emblematic graphic style.

The design is clear, with bold colors: bright red for the book and the bow, yellow for the flowers, black for the outlines, and white for the base of the eraser. The visual reflects the graphic style typical of Japanese merchandise from the late 1970s and 80s, a period of growing international popularity for Hello Kitty. The object stands out for its rounded shapes and matte finish, typical of novelty erasers from that era.

The visible front does not show any apparent brand inscription other than the word "PRINCE." The visual aspect suggests an advertising or novelty stationery eraser, originally intended for the school market or youth stationery. The surface shows a slight, uniform yellowing, indicating its age, and some traces of wear on the edges, with no major visible chips.

The Hello Kitty motif, associated with flowers and a book, is characteristic of Japanese kawaii imagery. The compact design and personalized cut reinforce the retro appeal of this eraser, valued for its playful and decorative aesthetic as much as for its utilitarian function at the time of its marketing.

The eraser is photographed from the front, placed on a dark wooden surface, with a bookshelf of old books in the background. Only the front face is visible; no details about the back or unexposed edges are available.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Some signs of use, visible patina on the edges, colors still well-preserved on the illustrated face. Normal vintage wear for an eraser of its age.

Did you know? The Hello Kitty character was created in 1974 by the Japanese company Sanrio. By the late 70s, Hello Kitty quickly became a global icon, giving rise to a multitude of stationery items, including decorative erasers, which were very popular in Japanese and European schools in the 80s.
