Description

An old illustrated school eraser, typical of productions from the 1950s-1960s. The object presented is a rectangular eraser, with the visible side adorned with a printed illustration of a stylized tiger, in bright and contrasting colours: orange-yellow, black, white, and red details for the muzzle and eyes. The background of the illustration is green, framed by a black border. The whole is integrated into the body of the eraser, whose visible border is light beige, with a matte and slightly patinated texture, characteristic of the natural rubber mentioned in the keywords.

The tiger's graphic design, resolutely naive and stylized, reflects an illustrative style very popular in post-war school supplies, combining simplicity of form and a vibrant chromatic palette, adapted to the world of childhood. The print appears to be original, well integrated into the eraser, with no noticeable thickness. No logo or brand is visible on the presented side.

The general shape of the eraser is a rectangular parallelepiped, with straight edges and corners slightly dulled by use. The beige surface around the illustration shows signs of wear, some marks and dirt, normal signs of old school use. The central illustration remains clearly legible, despite some small discolourations at the periphery.

This type of eraser was frequently used in French primary schools during the 50s-60s, and animal iconography was very widespread to appeal to children. The object presented is typical of this era, both by its graphics and by the choice of natural rubber, a material commonly used before the widespread adoption of synthetic erasers.

The eraser is photographed from the front, placed on a white doily, on an old wooden piece of furniture. Only the illustrated side is visible; no information is given about the other sides or any additional inscriptions.

Condition

Second-hand item sold as is, with visible signs of use: worn corners, slight marks on the beige surface, central illustration generally well-preserved. See photo for exact condition.

Did you know? Natural rubber erasers were widely used in French schools until the early 1970s, before the massive appearance of synthetic erasers. Animal motifs were designed to make the object playful and encourage learning through visual play.
