Large Italian painted metal sign, dedicated to the obligation of wearing gambali or uose (gaiters or spats), with a black boot pictogram on a light background and a large red border.

Description

Old painted sheet metal safety sign, large format, with a clear and highly decorative graphic composition. The upper part features a large red disc surrounding a light medallion, centered on two stylized black boots, rendered in solid colors with white linear details.

The rectangular lower part bears the Italian inscription in black capitals: "E? OBBLIGATORIO L?USO DEI GAMBALI O UOSE". The red border, the lateral cut-outs, and the mounting perforations contribute to the original structure of the sign.

Several printed mentions are visible in the lower part, notably "EDIZIONI E.N.P.I.", "SERIE O N° 8", "La Fotometallografica Cantù" and the regulatory reference "D.P.R. 27-4-55 N° 547". The reverse side has a metallic surface painted in a grey-green shade, with traces of use and old handling marks.

Context

This sign is part of Italian industrial signage from the mid-20th century, related to the prevention of occupational accidents and personal protective equipment. The visible reference to the D.P.R. of April 27, 1955, n° 547 refers to Italian standards for the prevention of occupational accidents. Used item, sold as is. Beautiful decorative presence with marked patina of use: scratches, scuffs, small paint losses, wear on the black and red solid areas, as well as visible missing parts in the central light area.
