This antique French-era engraving features a humorous hunting scene, printed in black on paper, characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century satirical publications. The illustration shows two characters: on the left, a hunter wearing baggy trousers, high gaiters, and a flat cap, equipped with a game bag and a rifle slung over his shoulder; on the right, a rural policeman (garde-champêtre) recognizable by his uniform, pipe, and thick cane carried at his waist. The two men are conversing in an undergrowth setting, surrounded by finely sketched plant details.

The scene is framed by a double black line, a typical signature of old illustrated press. At the top of the page is the section title "ACTUALITÉS" (NEWS) followed by the page number "198". At the bottom, a printed caption highlights the satirical tone: "Crognieugnieu! No luck this year... I haven't been able to catch anyone in violation yet!"

The work bears the handwritten signature "A. GESLIN" (or similar) at the bottom right of the drawing.
