Description

This antique engraving presents a detailed architectural view of Saint-Vulfran Church in Abbeville, from the "France Pittoresque" series. The black and white print shows the Gothic façade of the building, recognizable by its tall towers, pinnacles, and rich sculpted decorations. Several figures and horse-drawn carriages are visible on the parvis, evoking a 19th-century urban scene.

The engraving is carefully mounted on a light mat, which highlights the central illustration and facilitates framing. The title "France Pittoresque" appears at the top, while the caption "Église St Vulfran à Abbeville" is clearly inscribed at the bottom of the image, accompanied by engraved mentions, probably those of the publisher or draftsman, visible on either side of the bottom of the print.

The style of the engraving is characterized by great fineness of line, typical of illustrated productions from the first half of the 19th century. The architectural details, the play of shadow, and the accentuated perspective that gives depth to the scene are clearly distinguishable. The whole is presented against a backdrop of an old library, which further emphasizes its authentic and heritage character.

The visible surface of the engraving shows no coloration, confirming a classic monochrome print of the era. No color highlights or gilding are observable on the presented face. The mat shows some slight traces of handling, visible around the edges, without impacting the image itself.

Condition

Second-hand item, sold as is. The engraving appears well-preserved, with no major stains or visible tears on the illustrated area. The mat shows discreet marks and a slight patina, consistent with the age of the whole.
