Description

This antique engraving offers a detailed view of the ruins of Lougeville Castle, located in Seine-Inférieure (now Seine-Maritime). The black and white artwork is set within a finely textured, light-colored mat, which highlights the central image. The scene depicts a hilly landscape with remnants of walls and abundant vegetation, creating a romantic and picturesque atmosphere typical of 19th-century depictions. A human silhouette is visible on the left, emphasizing the scale of the site and the depth of the composition.

The engraving is characterized by precise cross-hatching, rendering the richness of the foliage and the texture of the stones. The cloudy sky and the terrain's relief are depicted with great attention to detail, demonstrating a mastered technique of paper engraving. The lower margin bears the following perfectly legible inscription: "Ruines du château de Lougeville (Seine-Inférieure). – Dessin de H. Catelaeci." The engraver's name, "Catenacci," also appears to the left of the image, while "Gravé par..." is indicated to the right (the rest of the text is not fully legible in the photograph).

The mat mounting provides an elegant presentation, ideal for framing or display in a classic or vintage interior. The piece is photographed in front of a bookcase, highlighting its historical and decorative character. No frame is visible; only the front of the mat is shown. The edge of the mat shows some discreet signs of wear and slight stains, indicating its age, but the engraving itself appears to be in good condition, with no apparent tears or stains on the visible part.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The artwork shows a patina of use on the mat (slight stains, handling marks visible on the bottom right), with no major flaws on the visible engraving. Please examine the photo carefully to appreciate the details and exact condition.
