Description

This antique engraving, titled "Tombeau de Broia" (Tomb of Broia), depicts a cathedral interior in a richly ornamented Gothic style. The image shows a funerary monument surrounded by elaborate architecture, with finely detailed arches and sculptures. Several period-dressed figures are visible in the foreground, accentuating the depth and historical dimension of the scene.

The black and white drawing is printed on slightly yellowed paper, set in a cream passe-partout with a decorative gilded border. The engraving is signed in the lower left by the artist, whose signature is legible but difficult to precisely decipher in the photo. Below the image, the caption "Tombeau de Broia" is clearly printed.

The graphic style, with its fine hatching and strong contrasts, evokes 19th-century engraving techniques, common for illustrations of architecture and historical monuments. The whole presents a beautiful visual harmony thanks to the gilded border that highlights the central scene.

The engraving is mounted on a rigid cardboard support, suitable for wall framing or easel display. No frame is visible in the photo. The overall condition of the support is good, with some signs of handling or slight wear on the edges of the passe-partout.

This type of decorative engraving, both authentic and vintage, fits perfectly into a retro wall decor, an architectural firm, or a library with a classic ambiance.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The whole has a clean visual appearance, with minimal signs of wear on the passe-partout, without tears or major stains visible on the engraving itself.

Did you know? Architectural engraving experienced a particular boom in the 19th century, allowing for the dissemination of precise images of great European monuments. Monumental tombs, like the one depicted here, were often commissioned by noble families and created by artists specializing in stone carving and Gothic decoration.
