Vintage French Army 605CM military badge, leather and metal
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Antique French Army military insignia, model 605CM, presented on a brown leather support sewn with yellow thread. The insignia consists of a metal plate with a patinated finish, adorned with an embossed motif representing a worker in a smock, holding a hammer in front of an anvil, next to a large gear wheel and industrial equipment, typical of engineering or military maintenance units.
At the top, a stylized flame surmounts a horizontal blue band, a characteristic detail of French military insignia. The inscription "605CM" is clearly visible at the bottom of the insignia, while the upper part features an embossed inscription, probably the name of the unit ("Régiment du Matériel" or similar, text partially legible).
The entire piece features a grey and bluish patina, with visible signs of wear on the raised parts and on the edge of the leather, highlighting its authenticity and age. The plate is solidly attached to the leather, which has a slit and a suspension hole at the top, allowing the insignia to be attached to a uniform or a support. The stitching is regular, with some localized signs of wear.
This type of insignia was traditionally worn by technical personnel, mechanics, or specialized workers of the French Army, reflecting specific military and industrial know-how. The style of the plate, the typography, and the choice of symbols evoke a production from the second half of the 20th century, in the tradition of post-war French insignia.
The visible side shows no other distinctive marks or hallmarks. The ensemble offers a decorative and authentic appearance, typical of military workshop or technical support insignia, with a beautiful harmony between the aged metal and the patinated leather.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Marked patina on the metal, visible wear on the leather and stitching, with no major chips or apparent breakage on the visible side.
Did you know? French military insignias made of leather and metal were often produced in small series for each unit. The "605CM" refers to a maintenance company, an essential cog for the upkeep of heavy army equipment, especially during the second half of the 20th century.
