Vintage French Air Force military badge enamelled blue coat of arms escutcheon
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This is an old military badge, escutcheon-shaped, presented on a plain blue background. This model features a central relief depicting a fortified building, evoking a military edifice or a stylized castle, typical of some French Air Force unit badges. The lower part of the escutcheon is adorned with a small tricolor blue-red emblem, enhanced with three crescents and a flower, a detail frequently found on regimental or airbase badges.
The border of the escutcheon is outlined with a silver fillet, highlighting the overall silhouette of the object. The whole presents a bright blue enameled finish, characteristic of military metal badges produced during the 20th century. The slightly patinated appearance and visible micro-wear on the surface attest to the authenticity and age of the piece.
The visible face shows clear and detailed reliefs, particularly on the architecture of the building and the heraldic motifs of the lower emblem. No text or unit number is legible on the front face, suggesting standardized manufacturing for a specific Air Force unit, without nominative or assignment personalization.
The format of the escutcheon is compact, with a cut-out at the bottom evoking the point of a traditional shield. The visual composition and color palette used (blue, silver, red) are typical of French military badges from the "vintage" period (probably 1950s-1970s, without being able to confirm with certainty in the absence of other visible clues).
The enameled texture offers a beautiful shine and good legibility of details, despite occasional wear marks, especially visible on the raised parts of the building and the coat of arms. The reverse side of the badge is not visible in the photo.
