Description

This document is an original copy of the professional journal "Le Journal des Brodeuses", dated July 1, 1953 (38th year, no. 700). The cover features graphics typical of the 1950s, with abundant black and white floral ornamentation surrounding the central title. The full title "Le Journal des Brodeuses – Professional Embroidery Journal" is perfectly legible on the cover page, as is the publisher's address: 22, rue d’Algérie, Lyon.

The layout highlights a large embroidery motif to be executed, intended for making doilies, with precise instructions such as "No. 1 Round doily to be executed in appliqué and stem stitch" and "No. 2 Square doily to be executed in appliqué and stem stitch". The motifs are composed of swirling foliage, stylized leaves, and flowers, perfectly matching the aesthetic sought for interior embroidery in the 1950s. The bottom border of the page also includes the issue's table of contents, listing various patterns and alphabets to embroider.

The paper has a beige tint typical of old publications, with a slight patina visible over the entire surface. The printing is in black, without any added color. The main inscriptions are clear and smudge-free, allowing for easy reading of the editorial content and embroidery instructions. The bottom left corner mentions a medal obtained at the Lyon Exhibition in 1913, testifying to the publication's renown.

The page's graphics are adorned with a very detailed floral frame, characteristic of specialized journals of that period. The patterns offered inside are clearly printed, with numbered markers to facilitate reproduction on fabric. No major defects are visible on the photographed area, apart from natural patina related to the paper's age.

The upper part of the journal details the subscription rates of the time, the founder's name (F. Laurent), as well as the mention of the manager, Madame J. Laurent. This document constitutes a valuable testimony to the art of embroidery and professional publications in France in the mid-20th century.
