Description

This document is an original copy of the "Journal des Brodeuses" (Embroiderers' Journal), a professional embroidery periodical, dated November 1949. The cover, richly illustrated with black and white floral patterns, displays a refined and decorative typographic composition typical of artisan publications from the early to mid-20th century. The publisher's address, F. Laurent, in Lyon (22, rue d'Algérie), is clearly mentioned at the top of the page.

The visible page features content intended for professional embroiderers or skilled amateurs, with plates of alphabet patterns for embroidery. Several letter styles are distinguishable, including fancy alphabets and monograms, accompanied by explanations or precise usage instructions (e.g., "alphabet for blouses," "crest," "pillowcase"). The drawings are clear, outlined in black ink, and highlight the variety of styles offered.

The table of contents, located on the left, details the various topics covered in this issue: sheets, doilies, household linen, alphabets for various uses, monograms, and crests. This attests to the practical and educational purpose of this journal, which served as a reference for embroiderers in their work.

The upper part of the journal, adorned with a dense floral frieze, demonstrates a graphic savoir-faire inherited from Art Nouveau, while the typography and layout recall the codes of post-war artisan publications. The visible condition shows signs of wear, including creases, tears on the edges, and marked patination, typical of a paper document from this era.

The main inscriptions are perfectly legible, notably the title, the date (November 1949), the issue number (656), the publisher's contact information, as well as the section titles and the alphabet patterns offered as examples.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Presence of marked creases, tears on the edges, crumpled corners, and patination from use on the cover. The whole remains legible and usable for documentary or decorative purposes.
