Description

This document is an original copy of the professional embroidery magazine titled Le Journal des Brodeuses, dated March 1, 1950, issue 660. Its cover features a black and white floral composition surrounding the title, a typical detail of graphic design for specialized periodicals in the mid-20th century. The entire visible page is printed in black on cream paper, with an elegant and meticulous layout, characteristic of professional publications of the era.

At the top of the page, you can find the mention "35th Year", the precise date "March 1, 1950", as well as the price (25 fr. in France, 30 fr. abroad). The editorial and publishing headquarters are clearly indicated: 22, rue d’Algérie, Lyon. The publisher, F. Laurent, is also mentioned as a designer and editor. The magazine proudly displays its diploma medal obtained at the Lyon Exhibition in 1914, a testament to its longevity and professional recognition.

The central part of the exposed page offers embroidery patterns to reproduce, including two bib models, richly adorned with stylized floral motifs, arabesques, and lace. The designs are clear and detailed, accompanied by markers for crafting. On the left side, a table of contents lists the various models and alphabets offered in this issue: pocket corners, sheet trim, children's patterns, embroidered alphabets, etc.

The paper shows signs of time, with a slight general patina, slightly crumpled edges, and some handling marks visible on the left edge. The ink has remained well-contrasted, allowing for easy reading of all inscriptions and patterns. The exposed page does not feature colors other than the black of the print and the natural shade of the old paper.

This periodical is a valuable resource for reconstructing traditional embroidery techniques, studying old textile patterns, or for inspiration for contemporary embroidery creations. Its presentation highlights artisanal craftsmanship and aesthetics typical of the early 1950s.
