Description
This visible document is an original copy of the periodical "Le Journal des Brodeuses" (The Embroiderers' Journal), dated April 1, 1953, number 697, published in Lyon by F. Laurent. It is a professional journal dedicated to embroidery, highly valued by workshops and seamstresses of the time for its patterns and technical advice.
The cover, richly illustrated with black and white floral motifs, shows a refined graphic style typical of the mid-20th century. The ornate title, framed by an abundance of stylized flowers, highlights the artisanal and feminine theme of the journal. The publisher's address, "22, Rue d’Algérie, Lyon," is clearly visible, as is the mention of the founder F. Laurent and the manager Madame J. Laurent.
On the lower part of the page, a large embroidery pattern for a bib is printed, accompanied by numbered instructions and placement indications. Handwritten annotations in blue ink are also visible, likely made by a previous user, adding an authentic charm to this piece. The table of contents details the projects offered in this issue: bibs, sheet trim, cushion, and various embroidered alphabets.
The overall condition shows a natural paper patina, typical of old publications: slightly yellowed tint, prominent central folds, blunted corners. No reverse side is visible in this image. The typography and iconography clearly evoke the design of the 1950s.
The mention "Ne pas couper ce numéro" (Do not cut this issue) reminds of the journal's utilitarian purpose, designed to be kept and regularly consulted by professional or amateur embroiderers.
