Description

This lot features an original copy of the French newspaper "Le Provençal", dating from the 1950s, as shown in the photo. The newspaper is distinguished by its large front page, printed in black and white, on typical newsprint paper of the era. The title "LE PROVENÇAL" appears in red letters in the center of the first page, topped with the mention "The largest circulation in the South-East". Several boxed articles highlight important national and international news of the period, with a dense layout typical of post-war print media.

The front page features numerous headlines and articles relating to French politics, sports (football, rugby), as well as social events. Among the visible headlines: "The Socialist Congress defines the conditions of its participation in the government", "France fervently celebrated November 11th", and "Here is the file on the Dominici affair". There are also period advertisements and an announcement for a special "Semaine du Monde" edition.

The paper has a slightly yellowed appearance, consistent with a post-war newspaper, with marked creases and some visible undulations at the top and edges. The print remains clearly legible, with no major discoloration on the visible side. Several photographs illustrate the front page, including a large commemoration photo and a sporting scene.

The graphic style, typography, and dense column structure are representative of French daily newspapers of the 1950s. The layout emphasizes large headlines, typical of the era, and a strong visual hierarchy. The absence of color (apart from the red title) and the paper's texture immediately evoke the vintage charm of old newspapers.

Condition

Used newspaper sold as is, with signs of handling, creases, and usual yellowing visible on the front. No missing parts or major tears observed on the page presented.

Did you know? Le Provençal was one of the major daily newspapers in the south of France, founded in 1944 and later merged with Le Méridional to become La Provence. It covered many historical regional and national events, playing a key role in the dissemination of information in Provence and on the French Riviera for several decades.
