Description

This old newspaper is a copy of the French daily Le Provençal, the front page of which is perfectly legible in the photo. This issue features a typical layout of regional press from the 1950s, with a dense columnar design, bold headlines, and numerous boxed inserts. The main title, "Le Provençal," appears in red at the top of the page, a notable visual characteristic of this newspaper from southeastern France.

The front page announces several major topics of the time, including government decisions on the fight against alcoholism, a debate on participation in the national congress of the socialist party, as well as significant news items. An insert highlights "The tragedy of André Citroën" with a photograph of an old car, and another deals with the Dominici affair, a famous judicial case from the mid-20th century. There are also articles relating to weather, sports, the national lottery, as well as vintage advertisements at the bottom of the page.

Visually, the paper has a slightly yellowed tint, typical of the natural aging of old newspapers. The edges are slightly wavy, and fold marks are visible in the center of the newspaper, signs of prolonged folded storage. No major missing parts or visible tears are apparent on the presented side, which is remarkable for a document from this period. The texts, black and white photos, and vintage advertisements are well contrasted, which gives the whole an authentic retro character.

The main inscriptions are clearly legible, such as "Measures against alcoholism," "The debate on participation is open," or "Honoring the dead...". The visible illustrations and advertisements, particularly for the national lottery and consumer products, add to the documentary and aesthetic value of this period newspaper.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The copy shows signs of wear related to age: yellowing of the paper, marked folds, slight undulations, and some creases. The visible side shows no major tears or significant stains. The whole remains legible and well-preserved for a 1950s newspaper.

Did you know? Le Provençal was an important regional daily newspaper founded in Marseille in 1944, covering news from southeastern France. It played a major role in regional political and social life until its merger in 1997 with Le Méridional, giving birth to La Provence.
