Description

This lot features an old issue of the youth newspaper "Lisette", as seen in the photo. It is issue number 47 of the fourteenth year, dated Sunday, November 25, 1934, as indicated at the top of the cover. This periodical, titled "Journal des fillettes" (Girls' Newspaper), was a very popular illustrated weekly in France in the early 20th century. The presented issue contains 16 pages, information framed on the left side of the cover.

The front cover features a polychrome illustration typical of the era, depicting several characters in period clothing in front of a country house, around a wooden fence. This scene illustrates the beginning of the story "L'Enfant du Naufrage (suite)" (The Shipwrecked Child (continued)), a title clearly inscribed at the bottom of the page. The graphic design and typography are characteristic of the 1930s, with a "Lisette" logo adorned with a blue-green background and surrounded by stylized roses.

The newspaper displays the original selling price, "25 centimes," in a yellow cartouche on the right, reinforcing the authenticity of this old edition. The address of the Parisian offices is also on the cover: 1, rue Gazan, Paris (XIVe). The mention "Parait : Chaque Semaine" (Appears: Every Week) reminds us of the publication's periodicity.

Visually, the cover shows a slight uniform patina, typical of old papers, as well as signs of age, including small brown stains visible at the bottom right. The edges are generally clean, with some slight signs of wear and a slightly dog-eared lower right corner. No major losses are visible on the presented face.

The graphic style of the illustration, with its flat colors, strong black outlines, and narrative staging, is emblematic of illustrated youth press from the interwar period. This issue fully fits the aesthetic of French publications of the 1930s.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Patina, brown spots, and signs of wear visible on the cover. The interior condition is not visible in the photo.

Did you know? The "Lisette" newspaper was launched in 1921 by the Montsouris publishing house and was aimed at young girls. It marked several generations with its illustrated serials, comic strips, and practical advice, and ceased publication in 1973. The publication is now sought after for its period illustrations and content typical of female youth in the 20th century.
