Description
This antique "Pigeon Lamp" is an authentic 19th-century lighting object, recognizable by its cylindrical shape and conical shade topped with a long central spout. Made of silver-colored metal, it has a patinated surface, typical of period objects, with a visible engraving on the front. The inscription "Lampe Pigeon" as well as "garantie véritable" (guaranteed genuine) and instructions for use are clearly legible, confirming its authenticity and brand. This model is designed to run on petrol or kerosene, as indicated by the inscription.
The lamp displays an industrial and utilitarian aesthetic, with a matte finish and traces of use that add to its retro charm. Its cylindrical body rests on a wide circular base, ensuring its stability. The prominent fuel spout is typical of 19th-century petrol lamps, optimized for efficient combustion. The overall design is very simple, without superfluous ornamentation, true to the practical and robust spirit of the original Pigeon lamps.
The engraving on the visible side includes the brand name, guarantees, and usage instructions, all written in French. No decoration is visible other than this technical text. The metal's patina, with its grayish nuances and traces of oxidation, testifies to the object's age. No major structural defect is observable on the exposed side; the lamp maintains a solid and homogeneous appearance.
Photographed in a historical setting, the lamp is placed on a wooden table alongside other flame-based light sources, highlighting its original use and decorative dimension. Its slender silhouette and industrial look immediately evoke the era when this type of lighting was common in homes and public places before the advent of electricity.
This model, with its original engraving and characteristic design, is a fine example of an antique petrol lamp, sought after for both its decorative value and historical interest.
