Description

This antique toy depicts a wind-up mechanical rabbit, typical of productions from the 1950s-1960s. It is a plush automaton, recognizable by its seated posture and naive appearance. The rabbit is covered in a two-tone fluffy coating, in light beige and off-white tones, with visible signs of wear testifying to its age. Its expressive head features a prominent red snout, large fixed red-rimmed eyes, and an open mouth revealing two protruding teeth, a classic detail from that period.

The rabbit holds a stylized orange carrot between its paws, attached by a rod, with frayed marks at the attachment point. Its large left ear is erect, while the right appears slightly drooped, accentuating its animated expression. On its right flank, the metal winding key, painted beige and with a double hole, is clearly visible and confirms the object's mechanical function.

The toy's surface has a period plush texture, with a soft and matte appearance. Seams are visible in places, particularly at the paws and around the neck, which is characteristic of old mechanical toys. The original colors are faded, but the overall piece retains an authentic retro charm, enhanced by its patination from use.

No markings, logos, or inscriptions are visible on the photographed side. The general presentation, the key mechanism, and the naive aesthetic place this toy in the category of plush wind-up automatons, popular in the post-war era, mainly in Europe and Japan.

Condition

Used item sold as is. Visible wear on the plush surface and some signs of age (fraying on the carrot, plush flattened or discolored in places). Mechanism not tested. Presence of a uniform patina due to age.

Did you know? Wind-up mechanical toys were very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, before the massive arrival of electronic toys. Their spring mechanism allowed them to reproduce simple movements, such as eating, walking, or jumping, which fascinated children of the time.
