Handwritten administrative letter dated 1814, on antique paper in brown ink, enhanced with a 75-centimes printed revenue stamp. A civil document from the early 19th century, with expansive handwriting and neat flourishes.

Description

Old handwritten document, written on several folded sheets, featuring cursive French handwriting characteristic of administrative and legal acts from the early 19th century.

The upper part bears a handwritten inscription dated "3.10.1814". The sheet also features a round printed revenue stamp for 75 centimes, with an allegorical figure and the mention "Empire Français," an administrative detail particularly evocative of the period.

The handwritten content includes continuous developments, mentions of sums, accounting annotations, proper nouns, act formulas, signatures, and flourishes. Several passages suggest a context of succession, movable property, or administrative provisions, without a full transcription of the text.

Context

Dated 1814, this document falls within a pivotal period of French history, between the end of the First Empire and the First Restoration. Administrative acts from this era often retained the forms, stamped papers, and chancery practices inherited from the imperial administration.

This type of piece constitutes material evidence of 19th-century French administrative writing: dense layout, brown ink, long calligraphic ascenders, calculations entered in the margin or in the body of the text, and signatures with large flourishes.

Condition

Used antique document, sold as is. Paper with age patina, customary folds, slight foxing, handling marks, irregular edges, and small losses or tears at the extremities. The whole retains good general legibility and an authentic documentary character.
