Description

Period handwritten letter dated December 31, 1866, presented on a single sheet of paper. The writing is done in black ink, with a cursive calligraphy characteristic of the 19th century, fluid and slanted. The document is written in French, on a rectangular page with the upper left edge cut obliquely, a detail typical of a manual cut or old wear. The text, although partially legible, is a testament to private correspondence from the second half of the 19th century.

The letter is displayed vertically on an old wooden desk, surrounded by period accessories such as a glass inkwell with a metal mount and a pen holder, reinforcing its visual authenticity. To the right, an old black and white photograph, laid flat, suggests a historical context consistent with the letter. The bookshelf in the background, filled with old bindings, accentuates the heritage atmosphere of the scene.

The paper has a slight, uniform patina, typical of old documents, with no major stains or visible tears on the visible side. The edges are clean, with the exception of the upper left corner which shows an irregular cut. The ink remains well-contrasted, with a slight variation in intensity due to the natural absorption of the support over time.

The letterhead clearly indicates the handwritten date "December 31, 1866", followed by handwritten text whose signature, though present at the bottom of the page, is not identified in the photograph. No watermark, publisher's mark, or stamp is visible on the shown side. The letter is unfolded and displayed flat, which facilitates its reading and display.

The composition of the image allows appreciating the texture of the paper as well as the finesse of the pen strokes. Each line is regularly spaced, illustrating the mastery of handwriting of this period. The whole constitutes an authentic testimony of 19th-century private correspondence, perfect for historical research, decoration, or palaeographic study.
