Description

Period handwritten letter, dated Tuesday, September 24, 1912, written in violet ink on a sheet of squared paper. The meticulously handwritten text fills the entire visible page, with regular and legible cursive script over most of the document. The heading at the top of the page specifies the exact date: "Mardi 24 Septembre - 24.9.12". The letter begins with "Ma chère Mère" (My dear Mother) and recounts personal impressions and reflections, in an intimate and refined style, typical of early 20th-century family correspondence.

The sheet shows a slight central horizontal fold, probably indicating an old storage fold. The paper is of the squared-lined type, characteristic of Belle Époque school or personal stationery. The writing in violet ink, fluid and applied, demonstrates a desire for clarity and care in the correspondence. The text addresses daily topics, travel impressions, and personal observations, in a direct and affectionate style.

The document is presented flat on a wooden surface, with a corner of a lace textile doily visible at the bottom of the image, emphasizing the antique and authentic atmosphere of the scene. No reverse side or other face is visible in the photo; only the front and the handwritten text are observable.

The letter contains no illustrations, but the layout is neat, with regular margins and writing that remains straight on the paper's grid. No complete signature is visible on the presented part, but the address to the mother and the date confirm its familial and personal nature.

The document shows a slight patina, with some creases and undulations, but no apparent tears or stains on the visible side. The overall condition is good for a document of this era, with still visible inking and good legibility of the handwritten text.

Condition

Used item, sold as is, with visible signs of use and age (crease, paper patina). No major defects observed on the presented side.

Did you know? Handwritten letters from the early 20th century were often written in violet ink, a popular color at the time due to the widespread use of aniline inks. This color was appreciated for its readability and lightfastness, and it is frequently found in correspondence before World War I.
