Old handwritten letter 1939-1945 war, squared paper, pencil writing
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Period handwritten letter, written on a sheet of small-square graph paper, typical of school and military supplies from the mid-20th century. The writing, in graphite pencil, covers almost the entire visible page. The letter is presented flat on a brown background, showing the entire front side. The top part of the sheet has a serrated margin, characteristic of paper detached from notebooks or pads used during the 1939-1945 period.
The handwritten text, although partially legible, suggests a personal and intimate tone, probably addressed to a loved one. In the upper right corner, the mention "Ce matin 13 avril 43" (This morning April 13, 1943) followed by a time, precisely dates the writing to 1943, in the midst of World War II. The rest of the text is written in French, with cursive handwriting slightly faded in places, testifying to the document's age and frequent use.
The graph paper shows a slight yellowish patina, typical of old paper that has lasted several decades. No decorative motifs are visible; the presentation is simple and utilitarian, consistent with private correspondence during the war period. A lower right corner is slightly dog-eared, with no major visible tears on the front side.
The paper format, although not specified, appears standard for handwritten correspondence of the time, suitable for postal delivery. The entire visible side is dedicated to writing, without illustration or printed header, which reinforces the authentic and personal character of this period letter.

Did you know? During World War II, graph paper was frequently used for private and military correspondence due to its availability in administrations and schools. Letters written in pencil were common, as pencils were more economical and less subject to scarcity than ink during the war years.
