Description

Period handwritten letter, consisting of three sheets written in black ink, presented side by side on an old wooden desk. The cursive, dense and regular handwriting occupies the entire page. Several paragraphs are visible, alternating tight lines and airy passages, typical of intimate correspondence from the first half of the 20th century.

The first sheet has a printed header "LA PROTECTRICE" on the left, followed by pre-printed text, covered by the handwritten text. This mention suggests a medium used during or after the Second World War, often provided by associations or correspondence services for families and soldiers. The writing covers both the printed text and the white margins, a sign of intensive use of the available paper.

The other two sheets do not have an apparent printed header. The whole is written on light-colored paper, without visible lines, with a slight patina that attests to its age. The corners and edges are clean, with no visible tears on the shown side, but the texture of the paper shows natural wear related to age.

On the right-hand page, a handwritten note at the top left "Mon départ…" (My departure…) is legible, probably indicating a context of separation, common in war correspondence. Some passages evoke personal and family themes, but the detailed content is not fully legible in the photo.

The presentation, with the three sheets juxtaposed on an old desk and a background of bound bookshelves, highlights the historical and authentic character of this set. No precise date clearly appears in the photo, but the general aesthetic and visual clues are consistent with the 1939-1945 period mentioned in the keywords.

Did you know? Handwritten letters from the 1939-1945 period are now valuable sources for historians: they bear witness to the daily lives, feelings, and hopes of millions of civilians and soldiers. Letterheads from associations or correspondence services, like the one seen here, were commonly used to alleviate the shortage of supplies during the Second World War.
