Description

Old handwritten letter, dated October 12, 1941, written in black ink on a sheet of horizontal lined paper, visible in the photo. The document features neat cursive handwriting, typical of the early 1940s. The text begins with "Ma chère sœur" (My dear sister) and extends over an entire page, with a left margin. The inscription of the place and date, "Drancy le 12 Octobre 1941", appears at the top right, while an additional handwritten annotation is at the top left. The entire visible content deals with daily life, with allusions to health, family exchanges, and clothing management, reflecting the civilian context during World War II.

The paper shows marked folds, likely due to prolonged folding, and a slight old-age patina, characteristic of period documents. No decorative motifs are visible; the sheet is strictly utilitarian. The text occupies almost the entire visible side, without illustration or official letterhead. The writing is generally legible, although a few words at the top left remain partially decipherable in the photo. The paper color is slightly ivory, with darker shades at the folds, indicating its age.

The letter rests on a dark wooden surface, which highlights the fine texture and retro appearance of the document. No envelope or other accessories are visible in the image. The corners of the paper are slightly dog-eared, and there is moderate wear, without major tears or apparent stains. This type of handwritten correspondence is a direct testament to daily life under the Occupation, with definite historical value.

Condition

Used item with marked folds, an old-age patina, and slight wear on the edges, consistent with over 80 years of use and storage. The handwritten text remains legible on the visible side. Sold as is.

Did you know? During World War II, handwritten correspondence was often the only link between families separated by events. Letters were frequently subject to censorship and sometimes had to be written carefully, both in content and form, to avoid problems with the authorities.
