Description

Old handwritten letter dated August 28, 1942, written in Marseille and addressed to a recipient named Geneviève. The document is displayed on a wooden table, surrounded by old books with leather bindings and visible gilding, evoking an authentic and historical atmosphere. The letter is written in black ink, with a quill or fountain pen, on a slightly embossed cream paper sheet, showing folds and handling marks characteristic of period documents.

The text, written in legible cursive hand, begins with the handwritten mention "Marseille le 28 Août 1942" at the top of the page. The salutation "Ma chère Geneviève" introduces personal content. Several sentences can be distinguished, referring to the receipt of a postcard, family news, future plans with a person named Pierre, as well as references to Marseille and a family named André. The handwriting is fluid, regular, with thick and thin strokes typical of mid-20th-century correspondence.

The sheet has a patinated appearance, with slightly dog-eared corners and a slight ripple in the paper, signs of prolonged storage. No watermark or printer's mark is visible on the shown side. The absence of a printed header or decoration indicates common use, typical of private correspondence during World War II.

The document is carefully photographed, with natural light highlighting the paper's texture and the depth of the black ink. The entire visible side is perfectly legible, with no major stains, tears, or significant alterations to the support.

The letter, in addition to its historical interest, offers direct testimony of the daily life and concerns of a French family in 1942, in a wartime context. The antique books in the background reinforce the authenticity of the scene and the heritage value of the object.
