Old handwritten letter 1945 + RF stamp Marseille vintage envelope
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old handwritten letter accompanied by its original envelope, dated 1945, visible from the postmark. The letter is written in ink on a lined sheet, entirely handwritten. The cursive, regular and neat writing densely fills the page. The content is addressed to a recipient named Henri, as indicated on the attached blue envelope.
The blue-gray envelope bears a French 2-franc stamp depicting Marianne, typical of the immediate post-war period. The postmark mentions "CHARTRES" and the date 1945. The handwritten address indicates "Monsieur Henri Blanc, Parc de Bonne, Marseille", with a handwritten annotation added in the bottom right ("B. du R"). The envelope flap is not visible in the photo.
The letter, partially placed on the envelope, shows fluid writing and several continuous lines, with no apparent illustrations or decorations. The lines of the paper are clearly visible, and the ink used is dark, probably black or dark blue. No logo, watermark, or printer's mark is visible on the visible side.
The set presents an authentic period look, characteristic of private correspondence from the mid-1940s. Both elements (letter and envelope) are in used condition, with a slight patina due to age. The letter is placed on a dark background, which highlights the contrast of the sheet and the envelope.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Visible traces of use and patina, slight wear consistent with age, good general condition for a handwritten correspondence from this period.
Did you know? Handwritten letters with original envelopes and stamps, dated from the mid-20th century, often offer valuable information about daily life just after World War II. The 2-franc Marianne stamp, used here, was issued in 1944 and symbolizes the reborn French Republic after the Liberation.
