Old handwritten letter 1947 with vintage postal envelope France England
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old handwritten letter dated September 18, 1947, accompanied by its original envelope sent "By Air Mail" from Swindon, Wiltshire, England, to France. The envelope bears a handwritten address to "Mlle G. Blanc, 180 Rue de Rome," as well as postmarks dated 1947. On the letter, the sender's address is at the top right: "79, Stafford St., Swindon Wilts."
The document is written in blue ink on paper that appears slightly yellowed, typical of post-World War II era paper. The handwriting is neat and fluid, with a cursive style characteristic of the 1940s. The letter begins with "Ma chère Geneviève" (My dear Genevieve) and refers to a gift for a child named John, evoking family and personal sentiments. The visible part of the text suggests a private and warm correspondence, very representative of epistolary communication at the time.
The original envelope, well-preserved despite some creases and signs of wear on the upper flap, features a legible postmark and a blue "BY AIR MAIL" sticker. The letter itself, carefully folded, shows good preservation with some traces of handling, and no apparent tears on the visible side.
The handwritten layout, ink, and writing style contribute to the authenticity and vintage charm of the ensemble. Both elements (letter and envelope) are photographed against a backdrop of an old bookcase, reinforcing the archival and family history atmosphere.
This lot is intended for anyone looking for an authentic piece of period correspondence, illustrating daily life and postal exchanges between France and England just after World War II.
