Description

Old handwritten letter dated September 8, 1950, written in blue ink on a sheet of lined white paper. The handwritten text is in Italian and features neat, regular handwriting, typical of private correspondence from the mid-20th century. The letter is addressed to "Josie Cognat" and begins with "Trieste 8.9.50" at the top of the page, confirming its geographical origin and period of writing.

The document is accompanied by its original envelope, visible in the photo, bearing four red postage stamps and one blue stamp, all canceled with an Italian postal mark. The handwritten address on the envelope states "Chemin de la Rechussière, ESTRESSIN, Vienne (Isère), FRANCE," indicating international mail between Italy and France shortly after World War II.

The set is distinguished by the clarity of the writing and the preservation of the period postal elements. The edges of the letter and envelope are clean, and the corners appear well-preserved on the visible side. No illustrations or ornaments are present, reinforcing the authenticity and sobriety of this vintage correspondence.

The letter provides direct evidence of family or friendly epistolary exchanges in the 1950s. The handwritten text is fully legible on the presented side, with no apparent erasures or corrections.

The Italian postal mark and multiple postage are also interesting elements for studying the shipping methods and postal rates of the time. The envelope shows a clean opening at the top, revealing the beginning of the handwritten content.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The letter and envelope show slight age-related wear, with no major tears or stains visible on the shown side.

Did you know? International handwritten letters from the 1950s testify to the importance of written correspondence before the widespread use of telephones and electronic means. Multiple postage was common for cross-border shipments, with each stamp corresponding to a portion of the postal rate in force.
