Description

Old handwritten letter with its original envelope, visible in the photo. The set includes a letter written in blue ink on white paper, handwritten with neat cursive script. The text, partially legible, begins with "Cher Serge" (Dear Serge) and refers to a personal correspondence, notably mentioning the year 1960 and the sender's daily life. The letter is signed with the first name "Ginette".

The attached envelope, also handwritten in blue ink, is addressed to "Monsieur Serge Jullien, 36 rue Pavillon, Marseille (1er)". It features a red 25F Marianne French stamp, postmarked, with a partially legible postmark indicating "DRÔME". The front of the envelope shows slight age-related wear, with no apparent tears or major stains on the visible area.

The mail exhibits the typical style and presentation of intimate and family correspondence from the 1950s/1960s, both in the choice of paper, calligraphy, and phrasing of the text. The ink retains a beautiful intensity, and the paper support shows an authentic patina, with discreet traces of time on the edges.

On the visible side, the letter shows no excessive creasing or tearing. The envelope maintains good structural integrity. The graphic elements – wavy postmark lines, classic stamp, handwritten address – are characteristic of the French postal service of that era and reinforce the authenticity of the set.

This lot is a direct testimony of private correspondence from the early 1960s, perfect for studying daily life, philately, or for retro decoration. The handwritten content, address, and stamp make this object unique and rich in history.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Presence of visible wear marks and patina on the letter and envelope, with no apparent major defects on the exposed side.

Did you know? Envelopes franked with 25F Marianne stamps, like the one visible here, were widely used in France in the 1950s and 1960s. The postmark is a valuable clue for precisely dating the mail's circulation and tracing local postal history.
