Description

This lot consists of an old handwritten letter accompanied by its period envelope. The set is visible in the photo: two sheets of graph paper, written in blue ink, and a matching envelope. The handwriting is cursive, fine, and regular, typical of correspondence from the 1950s-1960s. One of the sheets is dated 28/7/60 and begins with "Chèr Serge," adding a touch of authenticity and intimacy to this epistolary set.

The letter is addressed to "Monsieur Serge Guillen, 34 rue Pavillon, Marseille (1er)", as clearly indicated on the handwritten envelope. The envelope bears a red stamp from the French Republic, postmarked in Valence (Drôme) and dated 1960, which confirms the era of this correspondence.

The paper of both sheets features a regular grid, typical of school paper used in the second half of the 20th century. The original folds are still visible, testifying to its postal journey. The writing is dense, covering all pages, with a distinctly personal and intimate tone, although the precise content is only partially legible in the photo.

The set displays shades of blue for the ink, and the paper shows a slight patina of age, with no major stains or apparent tears on the visible side. The off-white envelope shows a clear postmark and well-preserved edges. No particular decorative elements are visible; the layout remains simple and classic for private correspondence of the period.

The handwritten inscription "Malissard le 28/7/60" allows for precise dating and identification of the place of origin, elements appreciated for historical or genealogical research. The set is representative of the intimate correspondence style of the 1960s, both in form and materials used.

Condition

Used letter and envelope, sold as is. Original folds are present, paper shows slight wear consistent with its age, no major visible defects on exposed sides.

Did you know? The stamp visible on the envelope is a common model from the French Post Office in the 1960s. These handwritten correspondences are valuable for historical research, as they offer direct testimony to the language, customs, and daily life of the period, particularly in cities like Marseille, often at the heart of many regional postal exchanges.
