Description

Old handwritten letter in Greek, dated August 24, 1932, from Macedonia, visible on the upper right part of the sheet. This document is presented as a carefully unfolded double sheet, showing two handwritten pages filled on the visible side. The writing, in the Greek alphabet, is dense and regular, typical of private correspondence from the early 20th century. The mention « Μακεδονία 24/8/32 » appears at the top of the right page, confirming the geographical origin and the precise dating.

The paper has a slight cream tint, with well-marked fold lines, indicating postal delivery or prolonged storage. The ink used, probably black or brown, remains clearly visible and shows no major signs of discoloration despite the document's age. The cursive and neat handwritten style reflects the epistolary practice of the era and mastery of the Greek language.

The letter is displayed on a varnished wooden surface, in the immediate vicinity of several large bound books, suggesting a well-kept environment, suitable for the preservation of archives or historical documents. No decoration or illustration is visible on the presented side; only the writing occupies the entirety of the two open pages.

This type of old private correspondence is characteristic of exchanges within the Greek diaspora in Europe in the early 20th century, particularly in Macedonia. The handwritten text, not transcribed here, appears dense, without major interruptions, which suggests a detailed personal letter, probably addressed to a family member or close friend.

The paper shows slight undulations and usage folds, but no tears or visible missing parts on the exposed side. The overall condition is consistent with a period document, with signs of handling but no major alteration to the medium or ink on the visible part.

Did you know? Macedonia, a historically contested region, experienced significant population movements and Greek diaspora in the early 20th century, particularly after the Balkan Wars. Handwritten correspondence was then an essential link between dispersed families, each letter constituting a unique testimony to the life and concerns of the time.
