Description

Old handwritten letter in blue ink on a ruled letterhead, dated August 7, 1956, in Marseille. The document is addressed to the Chief Engineer of Ponts et Chaussées, 3 Quai du Port, Marseille, and comes from a private individual whose address is in the top left corner ("Cruciani Paul, 9 rue Emile Doria, Estaque Plage, Marseille"). A blue stamp "15e SUBDIVISION Affaire N° 16" is affixed to the upper part. The handwritten content concerns a request for authorization related to the occupation of a site, in connection with public or hydraulic works, as specified in the visible side annotations.

The sheet features a beautiful, regular cursive script, typical of the administrative style of France in the 1950s. The blue ink is well preserved and contrasts sharply with the slightly ivory squared paper. The letter includes several handwritten annotations on the margins, probably added for administrative file tracking.

The entire text is clearly legible on the visible side. A handwritten signature closes the letter at the bottom right, confirming the authenticity of the document. No printed logo, watermark, or illustration is visible on this side. The overall condition of the letter is clean, with no major stains or apparent tears. The corners appear crisp, with no visible staple marks or creases in the photo.

This period administrative document perfectly illustrates the customs and presentation of official correspondence related to public works and hydraulic management in Marseille in the 1950s. It also testifies to the archiving and file management practices for "Affaires" by regional technical subdivisions.

The handwritten statement, annotations, and administrative stamp give this document particular interest for local history, technical bureaucracy, and the evolution of public works in France.

Condition

Used item sold as is. Document in good overall condition, legible writing, well-preserved paper. Some signs of use or age may be present, visible in the photo.

Did you know? The subdivisions of the Ponts et Chaussées, such as the "15th Subdivision" mentioned in this document, played a key role in the management of local public infrastructure in France, particularly for hydraulic and port projects. The archives of these administrations are today a valuable source for the history of urban planning and regional development in the 20th century.
