Description

This work is an antique lithograph, likely from the 19th century, based on the graphic style and the signature visible in the bottom left (monogram "h.D" attributable to Honoré Daumier, a famous French caricaturist). The image presents a finely executed satirical scene, where two bourgeois characters, a man and a woman, are surprised in front of a painting whose content seems to cause shock or astonishment. The composition is typical of French caricature of the period, with expressive features, dynamic lines, and marked visual humor.

The print is framed with a gray-blue mat, which highlights the original engraving and protects the paper. The frame, visible in the photo, has clean lines and a matte finish. The lithograph paper has a slightly ivory tint, typical of old prints, and shows a fine grain, without excessive shine.

At the bottom of the composition, the printed caption is clearly distinguishable: "— Gods! what a nose you're giving me!" as well as the mention "Dessin de Daumier" (Drawing by Daumier). These elements confirm the satirical origin and the authorship of the drawing. The whole is presented in an architectural interior with subdued lighting, which emphasizes the heritage character of the work.

The engraving shows a marked contrast between the deep blacks of the lines and the light areas of the paper. The characters display exaggerated expressions, a signature of Daumier's style, and the details of the decor (clothing, accessories, attitude) reinforce the humorous and critical aspect of the scene.

The support shows no major defects on the visible surface: no apparent stains, creases, or traces of moisture on the exposed side. The frame also appears to be in good condition on the visible part, with clean, chip-free corners.

Used item, sold as is. The image shows a satisfactory visual state of preservation on the visible side, with no noticeable defects.
