Description

Old work entitled Les Natchez, Volume II, extracted from "Œuvres choisies de M. de Chateaubriand". The visible title page reveals a Parisian edition by the publishers Pourrat Frères, dated 1834 (indicated in Roman numerals: MDCCCXXXIV). The work also mentions Bazouge-Pigoreau, bookseller, located at 14 rue des Beaux-Arts.

The document presents a classic early 19th-century layout, with a title printed in capitals, a central black and white illustration depicting a figurative scene (likely related to the work), and publishing information at the bottom of the page. A partially legible oval blue stamp is visible at the bottom right of the title page, mentioning "CARNET LITTÉRAIRE DE RICHARD SUZÉ A POZNAN".

The paper shows a marked patina, typical of an old book: cream to beige coloration, foxing and traces of humidity on the title page. The page edges show some folds, creases, and visible wear, particularly in the lower right corner. The printed text remains legible despite its age.

The typography and central engraving illustrate the French editorial style of the first half of the 19th century. The absence of a dust jacket or cover in the photo does not allow for a description of the book's exterior appearance.

Condition

The book is second-hand and sold as is. Presence of foxing, stains, wear, and an ex-libris stamp on the title page. The general legibility of the text is preserved. Only the title page is visible in the photo; the condition of other pages or the binding is not guaranteed.

Did you know? François-René de Chateaubriand, a major figure of French Romanticism, published "Les Natchez" in 1826. This novel, inspired by his travels in America, explores the tragic fate of the Natchez people. Early 19th-century editions and printings are particularly sought after for their historical and editorial qualities.
