Description

This old booklet is an issue of the weekly magazine "La Petite Illustration", dated January 12, 1929, visible in the upper right corner of the cover. The page shown corresponds to issue 416, dedicated to theater and more specifically to Jacques Deval's play "Une tant belle fille", performed at the Théâtre Antoine in Paris. The typography of the cover, mixing black and red lettering, illustrates the graphic style of French cultural publications from the late 1920s.

The visible side shows an elegant and structured layout, with the magazine title in an arc at the top, followed by a central box listing the main actors and information about the play. Notable names from the stage of the time include Blanche Montel, Jean Worms, and Marcel André. The visual alternates fonts and color schemes to highlight the play's title in bright red, a common technique in theater press of that period.

At the bottom of the cover, subscription information, the publisher's address (13, rue Saint-Georges, Paris 9e), and legal notices from the era are visible. The slightly satin texture of the paper and the fine printing are characteristic of quality cultural magazines from the interwar period.

The presented copy is in used condition, with a slight curve visible on the upper left edge and some discreet signs of wear on the spine, typical of a printed work from nearly a century ago. No text is visible on the back or inside in this photograph.

This type of booklet, also called a fascicule or theater review, was intended to document the programs of major Parisian stages and to offer literary or dramatic studies. It is sought after for the richness of its content and the evocative graphics of its era.

Condition

Used item sold as is, with slight signs of wear on the cover and a curved upper corner. The visible side shows no major stains or apparent tears.

Did you know? The magazine "La Petite Illustration" was published from 1913 to 1939. Each week, it offered the full text of plays performed in Paris, accompanied by notes and studies on the authors or stagings, thus constituting a valuable source for the history of French theater.
