Lot of 4 vintage Sida Info Service phone cards from the 90s, chip, SID campaign visuals
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot consists of four vintage French phone cards, all dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness from the national campaign "Sida Info Service". Each card features a gold electronic chip on the left, characteristic of phone cards used in the 1990s.
The cards have a rectangular design with rounded corners, predominantly off-white with black, green, and red graphic elements. Three of them display black and white photographs of people (individual or group portraits), accompanied by prevention and support messages, such as "Tired of being alone with drugs. I've been seropositive since '90…(silence)… I need to get out of this mess." or "My son is HIV-positive and withdrawing into himself."
The toll-free number "05.36.66.36" and the mention "Sida Info Service" are clearly visible on each card, in green and black typography. Two models mention the capacity "Télécarte 50" and one "Télécarte 120". The fourth copy is distinguished by a large stylized red ribbon (symbol of the fight against AIDS) in visual relief and an encouraging quote for families and loved ones.
The inscriptions and visuals are sharp: documentary-style photographs, testimonial texts, logos and pictograms characteristic of 90s public health campaigns. The chips are intact and well-positioned; no reverse sides are visible in the photo.
The set presents a homogeneous visual aspect, typical of French phone cards from this period, serving as both a utilitarian object and a medium for social communication. The sober graphics and strong messages make them emblematic pieces of HIV/AIDS prevention in France.
Condition
Used items, sold as is. The visible sides appear in good overall condition, with no major apparent flaws in the photo (no deep scratches, relatively neat corners). Possible traces of use, wear consistent with age.
Did you know? Chip-based phone cards were introduced in France in the early 1980s and became ubiquitous in the 90s. They often served as a medium for awareness campaigns, such as that of Sida Info Service, which was one of the first listening and information services on HIV/AIDS in France, created in 1990.
