Description

This visible lot includes several "Pigeon" oil lamps, accompanied by various spare parts and accessories. The lamps feature a cylindrical structure surrounded by a circular metal support, typical of the Pigeon model, designed to stabilize the lamp and protect it during use. The tanks are topped with a visible cap, some displaying an embossed inscription, including the clearly legible word "PIGEON" on one of the lids. The visible elements suggest a metal construction with a matte finish, with traces of oxidation and uniform patina present on all surfaces.

The lot includes at least three complete lamps, each equipped with its circular metal protective cage support. Several visible accessories are also distinguishable, including oil funnels and removable lids, placed around the lamps. These elements attest to old use and are typical of portable kerosene or gasoline lamps used from the 19th to the early 20th century, mainly for domestic or utilitarian lighting.

The lamps have a sober industrial appearance, with functional and robust lines. The metallic finish, with silvery grey reflections, shows traces of use, superficial scratches, and light oxidation in places, enhancing their authentic character. The supports are designed to allow handling and transport without risk of tipping, a technical detail specific to this type of portable lighting.

Some elements of the lot, such as the funnels and lids, are detached or placed separately, indicating the presence of various spare parts. The ensemble is presented on a patterned tablecloth, in a bright indoor environment, which highlights the metal's patina and the objects' authenticity.

"Pigeon" lamps are recognizable by their utilitarian design, robustness, and functionality, which made them a standard in portable lighting before the advent of electricity. This lot, by its original condition and the diversity of its components, perfectly illustrates French engineering at the turn of the 19th-20th century in the field of lighting.

Condition

Used items, sold as is. Presence of oxidation, patina, scratches, and visible traces of use on all surfaces. Some elements are incomplete or require restoration. See photos for the precise condition of each piece.

Did you know? Pigeon lamps, invented by Charles Pigeon in 1884, revolutionized domestic lighting thanks to their increased safety and sealed tank. Their success was such that they were commonly used in homes, workshops, and public places in France until the early 20th century.
