Lot of used vintage retro brown teddy bears from the 1960s
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot comprises several antique teddy bears, as shown in the photo. In the foreground, there are two large seated bears, light beige to caramel in color, each wearing a brown and white gingham bow tie. Their round snouts, well-defined ears, and large dark eyes give them a sweet and classic expression, typical of plush toys from the 1960s and 1970s. These bears have a soft structure, with padded limbs and contrasting paw pads.
Surrounding these two main pieces, the lot includes other teddy bears of various sizes. Notably, there is a medium brown bear with a cream snout, an older bear with slightly curly beige fur, adorned with a decorative chain around its neck, and an elongated white bear, lying on its side, with dense and fluffy fur. Several small bears are also visible, including a dark brown model and another with brown fur, adding diversity and authenticity to the collection.
The lot also includes two small novelty plush toys: a black plush with white stripes, possibly a stylized animal, and a black plush with a red bow. These elements reinforce the eclectic and retro aspect of the collection, reminiscent of textile toys popular in past decades.
The overall presentation highlights the vintage character of these plush toys, with varied textures, ranging from short velvet to long fur, and predominantly natural colors (brown, beige, white). The sewn details (bows, snouts, eyes) illustrate traditional manufacturing techniques, with no apparent electronic or plastic elements on the visible surface.
Each plush toy features a rounded or elongated silhouette, true to the iconography of the classic teddy bear, with some stylistic variations reflecting different production eras. Signs of use, such as slight marks or a patinated appearance, are visible on some items, testifying to their age and history.
Condition
This lot is second-hand and sold as-is. Some signs of wear, marks, and variations in texture or shade are visible, characteristic of antique toys. Only the faces visible in the photo are described.
Did you know? The first teddy bear, inspired by American President Theodore Roosevelt, was marketed in 1903. Vintage models from the 1960s are often distinguished by their soft stuffing, large plastic or glass eyes, and hand-sewn finishes, signs of artisanal or semi-industrial manufacturing that now contribute to their charm in the retro plush market.
