Stamp lot Africa Maghreb Bahawalpur sports monuments
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot of stamps, visible in the photo, brings together a varied collection mainly from North Africa and South Asia, illustrating different themes and graphic styles. The selection includes stamps from Tunisia and Morocco, recognizable by their typical architectural iconography and bilingual inscriptions. Notably, emblematic monuments, minarets, and historic gates are visible, as well as face values in francs or centimes. Colors range from red, green, blue, brown to gray, with detailed architectural illustrations in medallions or rectangular frames.
A second series highlights sports, with three stamps illustrating scenes of football and athletics. The motifs feature players in action and a javelin thrower, in a graphic style characteristic of the mid-20th century. The mentions "DIA DEL SELLO 1950" and "IFNI" are legible, indicating a Spanish issue for the Ifni region, then under Spanish administration.
At the bottom of the page, several stamps from Bahawalpur (Pakistan region) are aligned, easily identifiable by the inscription "BAHAWALPUR" and Urdu script. These stamps feature heraldic motifs, horses, and riders, as well as distinct pastel colors (green, blue, pink, orange). One of them bears the mention "U.P.U.", indicating an issue related to the Universal Postal Union.
All stamps are presented in an album on a white background, facilitating the observation of their details. Cancellations are not visible on most copies, suggesting a mint or very lightly circulated condition for the majority. The architectural, sports, and heraldic illustrations demonstrate an appreciable geographic and thematic diversity.
The collection stands out for the variety of countries represented (Tunisia, Morocco, Ifni, Bahawalpur), the quality of the motifs, and the good legibility of the inscriptions on the visible side. The overall condition appears satisfactory based on the photo, with no obvious tears or missing parts on the presented faces.
Condition
Used item sold as is. The visible stamps appear to be in good overall condition, with no major apparent defects on the exposed side. Presented in an album, with no indication of gum or reverse side condition.
Did you know? Stamps from Ifni, a Spanish territory in North Africa until 1969, are sought after for their sports and historical themed issues. Bahawalpur stamps were produced between 1945 and 1949, a period when the principality issued its own series before its integration into Pakistan.
