Lot of cancelled stamps Asia China Taiwan Vietnam Japan thematic animals landscapes
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot includes several dozen Asian postage stamps, displayed on a black board. The visible stamps mainly come from China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Japan, with a few examples from Hong Kong. The diversity of designs is striking: there are illustrations of historical figures, animals (horses, tigers, fish), national symbols (Taiwanese flags), monuments, architectural scenes, flowers, as well as natural and urban landscapes.
Some stamps feature colorful and detailed designs, such as pagodas, temples, trees, or emblematic buildings. Several face values and inscriptions in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese characters are legible. Among the subjects, one can distinguish stylized portraits, scenes from daily life, and graphic elements typical of 20th-century Asian issues.
Cancellations are clearly visible on many examples, with round or oval postmarks, sometimes dated. Colors vary from red, orange, blue, green, brown, to black and white, each stamp displaying an aesthetic unique to its country of origin. Some Japanese stamps show classic illustrations (women in kimonos, traditional landscapes).
The board includes both recent stamps and others with an older graphic style, offering an interesting overview of Asian philately. The collection is varied in themes: fauna, flora, architecture, political and historical figures, cultural events, and propaganda elements visible on some Vietnamese stamps.
The stamps are arranged side by side, allowing appreciation of the diversity of formats (rectangular, some square), typographies, and printing styles. No details of the reverse side or perforations not visible in the photo are described here, in accordance with the provided view.
Condition
Used items, sold as is. The stamps show cancellations and some traces of use, typical of circulated stamps. The general condition appears correct for album presentation, with no major apparent defects on the visible side.
Did you know? China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Japan each have a rich philatelic tradition. For example, the first Japanese stamp, called "The Dragon," was issued in 1871. Taiwanese stamps often feature the national flag, while Vietnam issued many educational or commemorative stamps during the second half of the 20th century.
