Lot of French stamps 1920s 1930s Sower Paris Olympiad postmarked
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot comprises several French postage stamps, mainly from the first half of the 20th century, as shown in the photograph. It notably includes iconic series such as the "Semeuse" (Sower) in different denominations and colors, as well as blocks dedicated to the 1924 Paris Olympics. The stamps are presented in groups of four, some as corner blocks, others in pairs, all affixed to a white sheet.
In detail, there is a block of four blue 75-centime stamps featuring a helmeted woman's profile, typical of classic French issues of the period. Two blocks of four green 10-centime stamps are dedicated to the 8th Olympiad – Paris 1924, illustrating a female allegory holding an olive branch, with the inscription "FRANCE 8e OLYMPIADE 1924 PARIS."
Another set includes two blocks of four red 25-centime stamps, also bearing the effigy of the 8th Paris Olympiad, on a red background with white inscriptions. The "Semeuse" series comes in several colors: reddish-brown (15c), violet (20c), pink (30c), and blue (30c), all marked "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE POSTES" with the famous figure of the Semeuse sowing against the light.
Some stamps bear visible cancellations, notably "29.6.33" and "20.12.26," confirming their postal use at the time. The perforated edges are clearly visible, typical of prints from those years. The impressions remain clear, and the varied colors add interesting diversity to this lot. No stamp shows any surcharge or visible signature on the front.
The presentation on a white sheet allows each block to be clearly distinguished and reveals the overall condition: the corners are generally well-preserved, with some traces of use or handling visible, particularly on the margin of one of the blue blocks. The ensemble offers a representative overview of French philately from the 1920s-1930s.

Did you know? The "Semeuse" series is one of the most famous in French postal history, created from 1903 by engraver Louis-Eugène Mouchon. It symbolizes the Republic sowing the seeds of liberty and was used on many denominations until the 1930s. The stamps commemorating the 8th Paris Olympiad in 1924 pay tribute to the Olympic Games organized in France that year, a major event of the interwar period.
