Description

This lot brings together a varied collection of canceled French postage stamps, all visible in the photo. The stamps are presented on two rows of an album, offering a clear view of each piece. Primarily from the French Republic, they feature emblematic monuments, architectural scenes, landscapes, as well as commemorative and cultural subjects.

Among the visible illustrations are several famous buildings such as cathedrals, abbeys, churches, and historic sites, depicted in graphic styles typical of the mid to late 20th century. Some stamps display scenes of daily life, artistic motifs, or national symbols like the Cross of Lorraine. The colors are varied, ranging from blue, green, red, purple, to yellow and brown, with sober or more vibrant shades depending on the issues.

All stamps bear cancellations (traces of postal stamps), which attest to their postal use. Several face values are visible (e.g., 0.25, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50, 0.60), reflecting the diversity of printings and periods represented. Some stamps commemorate historical events or anniversaries, such as the Bicentennial of the Revolution or the Liberation of 1942-1967.

The motifs are finely engraved or printed, with a wealth of architectural details (spires, rose windows, facades, bell towers, bridges). Several stamps also show scenes of cooperation, allegories, or historical figures. The collection is distinguished by its beautiful graphic and thematic diversity, true to the French postal tradition of the 20th century.

The stamps are arranged in transparent strips, allowing them to be examined without direct handling. No major defects are visible on the exposed side, but some stamps show more pronounced cancellation marks or slightly irregular edges, typical of used stamps.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The stamps are all canceled, with slight signs of wear and old postal marks visible on the front. Presentation as shown in the photo, with no guarantee on the back or assessment of the gum.

Did you know? France was one of the first countries to issue stamps as early as 1849. Architectural and historical motifs have been a specialty of French issues since the 1950s, highlighting the national heritage on each stamp.
