Lot of used stamps France Alexandre Gustave Eiffel architecture
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot consists of several used French stamps, presented on a slotted cardboard sheet. The visible stamps offer a variety of motifs related to French architecture and history. Several examples illustrate emblematic sites, including bridges, civil engineering works, and urban landscapes, while others highlight historical figures such as Alexandre Gustave Eiffel.
The upper part of the lot presents a group of stamps illustrating a bridge or viaduct, with dominant shades of red and gray, and a clearly legible "Autoroutes de France" (French Motorways) mention. There are also stamps with dominant green and blue colors, representing a stylized landscape, where the inscription "20 ans du TGV sous la Manche" (20 years of the Channel Tunnel TGV) and the face value "0.66€" are clearly visible.
The lower part brings together many stamps bearing the effigy of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, recognizable by his portrait and the mention "FRANCE 0.66€" as well as "ALEXANDRE GUSTAVE EIFFEL" printed at the bottom. The background decoration features typical architectural elements associated with the engineer. The main colors are brown, purple, and beige, with fine details and circular cancellations visible on most examples.
The set presents a diversity of stamps, all canceled, with clearly identifiable face values (notably 0.66€). The perforated edges are typical of modern French issues. The stamps are generally in good visual condition, although some show more pronounced cancellation marks or small folds due to handling.
The handwritten inscriptions visible on the sheet (e.g., "4636 080", "4842 JD 02") appear to be internal references or classifications, without affecting the condition of the stamps themselves.
Condition
Used items, sold as is. The stamps are canceled, with traces of normal use and handling for this type of lot. The presentation sheet shows some signs of wear.
Did you know? Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923) is famous for designing the tower that bears his name in Paris, but he also carried out numerous civil engineering works across France and the world, including bridges, viaducts, and metal structures still in use today. The stamps bearing his effigy pay tribute to his major influence on 19th-century architecture and engineering.
