Description

This lot consists of eleven vintage postage stamps, mostly from former French colonies in South America and Africa. The visible set includes stamps from French Guiana and French Equatorial Africa, all stored in a transparent philatelic sleeve on a black background.

Among the stamps in the upper left, two specimens from French Guiana can be distinguished, one in magenta and the other in blue-grey, displaying face values of 10c and 50c respectively. Another blue stamp, marked "France Libre" and "Afrique Équatoriale Française," bears a value of 2.50 and depicts a stylized dove above a flame.

The bottom row features eight stamps from French Equatorial Africa, all illustrating a man seated near three arches, with variations in colors and values (1c yellow-brown, 2c violet, 3c blue-grey, 4c red, 5c green, 10c pink, 10c violet, 15c blue). Each stamp is adorned with a mention of the region ("Région du Haut-Oubangui" or "Région du Tchad") and the inscription "POSTES RF."

The colors of the stamps are vibrant, ranging from deep blue to carmine red, with shades of yellow, green, and violet. The motifs are typical of the colonial period, featuring local life scenes, allegorical figures, and stylized architectural elements. The perforations are clean and the margins regular on each observed stamp.

The inscriptions are generally legible, with mentions such as "GUYANE FRANÇAISE," "POSTES," "AFRIQUE ÉQUATORIALE FRANÇAISE," "FRANCE LIBRE," as well as clearly distinct face values. The overall visual condition indicates postmarked or unused stamps with no apparent hinge, well-preserved and protected in their sleeve.

Condition

Used items, sold as is. Possible presence of cancellation marks, slight imperfections, or minor flaws due to age. The stamps are generally in good condition for specimens of this period.

Did you know? The "France Libre" issues from French Equatorial Africa date back to World War II, a period when the colony joined Free France under the leadership of General de Gaulle. French colonial stamps bear witness to the postal history of these territories and the diversity of their illustrations, often created by renowned French engravers.
